Abstract
Sébastien Mamerot rédige entre 1460 et 1468 une vaste oeuvre historiographique et littéraire autour de la figure de Charlemagne, héros de la chrétienté médiévale par excellence. À partir des origines du peuple franc jusqu’à la moitié du XVe siècle, on y perçoit de nombreux thèmes différents les uns des autres: cela devient presque naturel de se tourner vers le passé, vers les histoires universelles et vers les petites chroniques, afin de trouver des textes à partir desquels les pages de Mamerot ont pris forme et pour essayer ensuite de régler certains aspects de ce parcours de réécriture.
Sébastien Mamerot wrote between 1460 and 1468 a vast historiographic and literary work around the figure of Charlemagne, the ultimate hero of medieval Christianity. From the origins of the Franks until the middle of the fifteenth century it conveys many different themes: it becomes almost natural to turn back to the past, towards the universal histories and the small chronicles, in order to find texts from which the pages of Mamerot may have taken form and to then try to explain some aspects of such a rewriting process.
